Trisha Paytas Apologizes After Backlash Over 'I Am Transgender' Video

YouTuber Trisha Paytas has a history of starting controversies and her latest is a whole lot to digest. On Monday (October 7), the star took to YouTube to seemingly come out as transgender to her 4.9 million subscribers in a video titled "I Am Transgender (Female to Male)."

In the 15-minute video, Paytas, 31, warned viewers that there is no intention for the upload to be a "trolling video," but went on to reveal that she is "1000% transgender" because she doesn't fit feminine stereotype. Despite the reveal, she also said that she identified with her "natural-born identity," which is female. "I identify with men better. People always think there's something wrong with me because I don't have that many girlfriends, but I do love girls. I love their sensitivity and all the stuff like that," she explained. "But that's why I identify more as a gay man because I like guys but I also identify as a guy." Additionally, she said that she didn't "love pronouns like they and them." At time of press, the clip had amassed more than a million views, with a whopping 68,000 thumbs down compared to the 16,000 thumbs up.

Paytas' contradictory remarks prompted a wave of backlash from a batch of LGBTQ stars like friend Gigi Gorgeous and Patrick Starrr, as well as general YouTube users. A day later, the star took notice of the reception and offered up a follow-up video, apologizing for using offensive language. "I never would want to offend that community that I’ve been so strong for and admired and loved and allied with for so long. Especially the transgender community," she said.

Over on her Instagram account, the star posted the transgender flag, which consists of five horizontal stripes, but the move didn't sit well with many users, who took over the comment section to share their distaste for her video.
