Did you know the average couple spends over $38,000 for their wedding? Between the venue, the food, the DJ/band, the invitations, the dresses and tuxes, wedding expenses add up very quickly. The cost of all these things can get even more expensive, too, depending on where you live in the United States. WalletHub conducted a study, which compared 180 U.S. cities, to find "the cheapest and most convenient wedding destinations that also promise a memorable day."

In order to find the best wedding location, WalletHub examined each city across 27 key indicators of wedding-friendliness, including average wedding cost, venues and event spaces per capita and hotel availability. Here's what they found.

Here are some other interesting finds made by WalletHub during their study:

  • El Paso, Texas has the lowest average cost for weddings, while New York City has the highest.
  • New York City has the most bridal shops, florists and attractions for guests per capita.
  • California had 3 cities - Glendale, Riverside and Bakersfield take the top spots for weather, while Rhode Island took the top 2 for worst weather, including Providence and Warwick.
