'Fuller House' Finally Explained Aunt Becky's Absence In Final Season

The final season of Fuller House has finally arrived on Netflix. As fans tear through the final 13 episodes, the reality that Aunt Becky doesn't appear at all—even during DJ, Stephanie and Kimmy's triple wedding—sank in. After skirting around her absence in the first half of season five, Fuller House finally addressed the fan favorite character's disappearance from the show.

As fans of the original Full House series know, Aunt Becky was born and raised in Nebraska before moving to California for a job on the fictional morning show Wake Up, San Francisco. In one of the final episodes, Aunt Becky's husband Uncle Jesse tells his nieces that his wife is back in Nebraska for an extended stay in order to help her mother.

The real reason for Aunt Becky's absence, of course, is Lori Loughlin's involvement in the college admissions scandal. Shortly after her involvement in the widespread scam was made public in the spring of 2019, Loughlin was fired from the family-friendly TV show. She also got the boot from Hallmark Channel's When Calls the Heart.

Though the powers at be at Fuller House and Netflix fired Loughlin for her involvement in the scandal, her co-stars have consistently shown her public support over the past year. Dave Coulier, who played Uncle Joey on both Full House and Fuller House, recently told Us Weekly that the Fuller House cast "loves her dearly" and that filming the final season "didn't feel right" without her. He added that her absence was "really sad" for the whole cast.

"However this kind of turns out, we’re there for her," Coulier added. "The images that people see aren’t always what is true. And Lori is one of my closest and dearest friends on the planet, and it’s really unfortunate that this has happened, and I will be there for her forever."

Loughlin and her husband Mossimo Gianulli recently agreed to plead guilty. The actress is expected to be sentenced to two months in prison.
