Kevin Liles says Young Thug is "one of the greatest prophets to come out of our culture."

On Wednesday, October 30, the veteran music executive and Lt. Governor Antonio Delgado sat down with Angie Martinez to discuss the 2024 election. Midway through the conversation, the Voice of New York asked Liles about Young Thug's spirits as he deals with the ongoing YSL RICO trial. Liles repeated what Thugger recently told him about life behind bars and said that the incarcerated rapper just wants to be with his family once again.

"I'll tell you what he said," Liles replied. "'Kev, I'm built for — leaders got to take this stuff on.'"

"But I always personalize it," he continued. "How would you feel if you couldn't bury one of your best friends? How would you feel if four walls defined you? How would you feel if you couldn't say 'Happy birthday', hug your mother? I can tell you what he said to me, but I know in my heart he wants to touch his family. I know in my heart he wants to touch his community. I know in my heart he wants to make a difference so I pray for him and his family every single day and I hope that you know that he's such an inspiration to our culture, and I want him home."

Young Thug has been locked up since he was arrested alongside 27 other YSL members in May 2022. He was accused of violating Georgia's RICO Act including numerous murder, drug and weapons charges. After he was denied bail several times, the Atlanta native waited behind bars until his trial began last November. Since then, Liles and others in the music industry have asserted Thugger's innocence and advocated for his freedom. He believes the 33-year-old artist will do great things if he makes it out of his current legal situation.

"I think he's going to say different things, do different things, be different," Liles said. "He's going to go to a place that some of the greats have been through because they tried to take everything from him and once you get to that other side, you're on a mission."
