21 Savage is joining forces with the late Bob Marley's family to assist the people of Jamaica following Hurricane Melissa.
On Friday, November 14, the Bob & Rita Marley Foundation, along with Cedella Marley and Ro Marley, announced their plans to join Savage and his Leading by Example Foundation to launch a relief fund for the people of Jamaica. The Atlanta resident and his foundation matched all donations made within the first 48 hours of its launch. All donations are tax-deductible, and 100% of proceeds will go directly toward relief efforts.
"There’s no better way to help our Jamaican family in their time of need," a joint statement reads. "Jamaica needs us for the long haul."
21 Savage and the Marleys are the latest artists to join the effort to help Jamaica following the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa. Last week, Shaggy, Sean Paul, and other Jamaican artists announced their plan to perform in New York City to raise funds for the island nation. The Jamaica Strong Benefit Concert will feature performances by KES, T.O.K., Inner Circle and more. The rare event, which is produced by the “I Love Jamaica Concert Series” in partnership with the Government of Jamaica, is set for December 12 at the UBS Arena in Belmont Park, New York.
The show aims to raise necessary funds for the island nation’s official Hurricane Relief & Recovery Fund, which assists families and communities affected by Hurricane Melissa. Proceeds from the show will go toward Shaggy’s “Make A Difference Foundation," Food For The Poor Jamaica, The Irie Jam Radio Foundation, and the Consulate General of Jamaica in New York. Tickets are on sale now.
